The room I never talk about

There is a reason I have never mentioned my dining area on my blog..it's because I have yet to love it. This is one of the only shots I have of my dining room until last night. This is also one of the only pictures I have of my dining room table (before it broke, and I really have not had a table for the last few months!)

Let's criticize:

  • I am not going to talk bad about the green, I LOVE it, but not on this wall, because it is connected to the front room. The front room has turned out very beautiful, and this room is not up to par.

  • Thrifty Decor Chick never does me wrong, but in this case I did not succeed with my version of her project. The square wall art is definitely a great idea ($10, can't beat that!) but I felt the need to center it behind the chandelier and table, but that leaves a HUGE empty space to the left.

  • The hutch was also a very bad idea. It is just so awkward in that area! I can't stand it there! What am I even using it for? Just pictures and random decor that will never be seen unless you are sitting at my invisible table, and even then, why?

  • The water cooler also needs to find a new home, and the trash cans are normally just left of the back door. YIKES! If I had a laundry room (see this post), this bullet would not be here.

See what I mean about the hutch? This is the ONLY good angle to look at it, and this is from my kitchen. The other angle is from the front door/front room/bar.

SOOO....last night I kinda went a little crazy, and started my re-do. I have to wait on my hubby to finish the baseboards before I can really do what I want, but here is the start.

To Do List:

  • Hutch-going to the weight room to be used as a book shelf and extra storage

  • Grass green-gone, paint new green

  • White bottom with a really cute molding idea I am SUPER excited about

  • Top half will be decorated completely, filling the whole space, not just half (but just as thrifty!)

  • I am putting my computer desk where the hutch is now, I don't really have a choice, it is in the front room right now, and it's WAY too crowded in there!

  • Hopefully I will have a table soon :)

  • And a laundry room!

Now let me know what you think about this color. Use your hand to cover the bright green on the right side, and look at the toned down green next to the gray & white. What do you think? (I think it's funny that I ask that, because I DO WHAT I WANT anyway :)

I am seriously so excited though! I have been thinking, dreaming, & planning this for 4 months now, and I finally have it all planned out in my head. Trust me, it looks fabulous in my brain!

I stumbled into your blog and love your posts. You have such great ideas (I'm on a budget too so I know the necessity of inspiration) and I appreciate that you talk about mistakes too.

Have you considered bringing the hutch back into the dining room (and maybe angling it in the corner where the green and grey meet) and using it as a bar?

I thought of ways I could keep the hutch in the dining room, but I really don't have anywhere else to put my computer desk than in this spot. So the computer desk won. Our house is very little, and we have to do all sorts of fun things to utilize it. Also, I love the hutch in our spare bedroom because it has become a great place to store things, which is wonderful :)
