Valentine's Wreath

I have seen this idea on lots of blogs lately, but they have all used the foam heart wreath form. This is my version, not really a wreath, but I am putting it on my door, so that's what I am calling it!
.
Supplies:
~1x2ft styrofoam
~Heart cutouts (you could cut out yourself, but they were only $1 so I decided to go the easy way)
~Whatever fabric you want! I used 5 different kinds. 2 cottons, 1 tulle, 2 different pinks in a tulle type fabric that was on clearance, and I don't know the name...sorry!
*Updated: I got 1/4 yard of each fabric, but I ran out of the pink. I found some pink fabric from an old failed project, so I used that. I would suggest getting more than the 1/4, maybe 1/3? I never know!
~Lots of hot glue (I think I went through 5 sticks)
~Ribbon or tulle to hang it by
I then cut the shape out with a knife
I was planning on just doing the one heart, but then I had more left over styrofoam than I thought I would.
I grabbed the smaller heart that came in the package, but it was a little too big.
I cut it down myself to the size I needed. When I cut it, the middle of the heart went further down than I wanted, so I made up for it when I drew it on the styrofoam.
After I cut the hearts, I cut the edges off at a 45 degree angle so they wouldn't be so harsh, and easier to work with.
Look at my pretty hearts.
Then I started hot gluing the fabric squares. For the smaller heart I used 1-1.5 inch squares and the bigger heart I used 2-2.5 inch squares.
.
You just glue the middle down, and then lift the pieces up each time you are going to add another next to it. During the process, they will fall down like the white one below, but then in the end it will all stand.
I learned along the way that I didn't need to put them on as close as I originally thought. I started out putting new fabrics in right up close to the last one, but then I learned I could give it more room. I think I put them on about a half inch away from each other, closer if it needed it.
This is what it looks like up close :)
Then I hot glued pink tool to the back to hang the two together.
Here is the finished product :).
I used pink and white, without any red because my door is red.
This is my first Valentines decoration I own, and I love it!
.
(P.S. Check out how I made my bench HERE and the burlap pillow on it HERE)
Have a nice weekend everyone, I am headed up to the white mountains this morning. I'm going to go play in the snow for the first time this winter, & I might freeze!

Very cute! I like the way you did two hearts instead of one. Wish I were motivated enough to decorate for Valentine's day. :-)

LOVE & so easy! I don't own any V-day decor either. Maybe I will be heading out for supplies to make this "wreath"...

These are really cute. I actually like these better than the wreaths. I think it will be easier to find a sheet of styrofoam than a heart wreath form. My 9 year old daughter just said "We have to make that, mom!" :)

Found you via tdc, don't usually comment because typing is tedious onbmy itouch, but you forced me into it! Here's what I love: your fab red door, how great your wreaths lookon it, your bench! I am calling this summer the summer of "curb appeal" and you've given me GREAT ideas! Oh, and I don't own even 1 valentine decoration, so I think we are kindred spirits there... It's time for me to join you on that venture!

Thanks for the post!

thank you for showing how to make it. i am going to be helping/hosting quite a few showers and this will make the perfect decoration! i may use cardboard since i have it on hand. this will be super cheap to make since i have tons of fabric scraps on hand. i love the felt wreaths, but i don't have any felt. this is perfect, thank you!
